Hershey's Track

 

The New Bern Parks and Recreation Department is beginning registration for our Hershey’s Track and Field Program.  Boys and Girls ages 9 to 14 can participate.  We will be hosting a local meet in June at New Bern High School.  Winners will advance to the Eastern Region Meet to be held in June in Havelock N.C.  First practice meets on April 22nd for participants to prepare for their events.

Some of the events include: 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, standing broad jump and softball throw.  Parents may sign up their child at the West New Bern Recreation Center, located at: 1225 Pine Tree and pay a $5.00 fee.  Parents may also download the form from www.newbern-nc.org and bring it to the center.  For more information please contact Gus Hill at 639-2908.

Let's Go Camping

New Bern Parks and Recreation will be hosting a series of camping trips for students between the ages of 12-16 years old. The camping trips will consist of 5 trips, one weekend a month beginning in April. All trips will depart from the Stanley White Recreation Center located at 901 Chapman St. 

Registration begins on Monday, March 10, 2014. You may also register online at www.newbern-nc.org by visiting the Parks & Recreation page and accessing forms/Recreation Centers. Each trip will cost $20.00 and registration forms are available at the Stanley White and West New Bern Recreation Centers.  

Trip dates and locations are as follows:

April 19-20th: Siddies Field, Havelock, NC

May 24-25th: Cliffs of the Neuse, Seven Springs, NC

June 28-29th: Cape Lookout National Seashore, Harker’s Island, NC

July 19-20th: San-Lee Park, Sanford, NC

August 1st–3rd: Grandfather Park Camp Grounds, Boone, NC

MTE Fitness Center

Do you want an accessible and affordable place to get exercise?  Mission Triangle E (MTE) is your answer.  The MTE Indoor Fitness facility is open to anyone 16 years and older looking to exercise using cardio and weight training equipment.  The Mission Triangle E Fitness facility is located in the Stanley White Recreation Center at 901 Chapman Street.  Membership cost is $20.00 per year.  There is also a non-member option available.

Teen Night Adventure Club

Come join us at Stanley White Recreation Center for Teen Night Adventure Club every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm; beginning in February and lasting until May.  Teen Night Club explores New Bern while visiting restaurants, bowling, skating, sporting events, and much more. Cost varies according to activity planned. Applications and activity schedules can be picked up at Stanley White Recreation Center and West New Bern Recreation Center.

Teen Tutoring Sessions

New Bern Parks & Recreation Department will be sponsoring teen tutoring sessions for youth ages 13-17. Interested participants can register at Stanley White Rec. 7th Annual College Tour

New Bern Parks and Recreation will be hosting the 7th Annual Spring Break College Tour held on April 14th, 16th, and 17th 2014.  Scheduled colleges to be visited include East Carolina University, North Carolina Central University, and Winston-Salem State University.

Coed Church Softball League

The City of New Bern Parks and Recreation Department would like to invite you to join its Coed Church Softball League this spring. Practice will be through the month of March with games beginning on Saturday, April 5th. Please call or email for more information.

                      2014 Festival of Fun

This year will mark the fourteenth year for Eastern North Carolina’s premiere children’s event, the Festival of Fun, presented by the New Bern Parks and Recreation Department, on April 12, 2014.

Join us at Union Point Park in downtown New Bern from 9 am - 4 pm for a day full of games, mini-train rides, inflatable rides, carnival food, stage performances, a petting zoo, kid-friendly vendors, educational information, arts & crafts, and lots of fun. 

New this year, we will feature an Easter Egg Hunt for kids 6 and under.  Registration for the Hunt begins at 9:30 am, so make sure to get there in plenty of time to register.  The fee is $3 per child.  Back by popular demand is the Rubber Duck Derby, hosted by the New Bern Rotary Club. This duck race will wrap up our day at 3 pm!  Hundreds of rubber ducks will converge on Union Point Park in an effort to make it to the shore first.  Ducks will be available for purchase during the festival. Camp Spring Fling 2014

Our experienced and nurturing staff is eager to welcome your child to Camp Spring Fling 2014!  Your campers will have fun while creating memories to last a lifetime! Spring Break Field Day

New Bern Parks & Recreation Department will be having a Spring Break Field Day. This event will be held for children ages 0-12 years old. There will be games, face painting, egg decorating, etc. This program will be held on Tuesday, April 15th from 12 pm - 3 pm. This program is free. Y.E.S. Summer Camp

This camp is for ages 6-12.  Y.E.S Camp activities include bowling, skating, swimming, arts and crafts, movies, field trips and much more. This camp is broken down into five camp sites:  Henderson Park, Community Resource Center (CRC), Lawson Creek, Pembroke, and Pleasant Hill.  Space is limited to 25 participants per camp site.  Camp dates are from June 16th – August 8th, 2014.  Registration begins March 31st for city residents and April 7th for non-city residents.  Registration fee is $20.00 for the first child, $15.00 for each additional child. Registration forms are available at the Stanley White Recreation Center and online at www.newbern-nc.org on the Parks and Recreation page under forms.  All activities are pay as you go.

Bern Bear Day Camp

New Bern Parks & Recreation will be holding registration for the Bern Bear Bunch Day Camp program at West New Bern Recreation Center.  The camp is for ages 6-12.   Children participate in different games, physical activities, field trips, cookouts, etc.  Bern Bear Bunch offers (4) two-week sessions.  Pre-registration is required.  Registration begins on March 31st for city residents and April 7th for non-city residents.  Space is limited.  For more information call West New Bern Recreation Center at 639-2912.  You may visit us at  www.newbern-nc.org.

Color Splash Summer Camp

Color Splash summer camp is a unique, total-art immersion, summer program for kids in the 6th-8th grades who LOVE art! Campers will be encouraged to experiment, to seek out their own artistic interests, and learn at their own pace while being challenged to broaden their horizons.

Young at Art Spring Camp

“…where creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties.”

The West New Bern Recreation Center is ecstatic to present our annual “Young at Art” spring camp for children between the ages of 8-11 (3rd-5th grades)-.. Your camper, along with the “Young at Art” staff members, will enjoy 4 days (April 14th –17th ) full of cultivating art projects that will stimulate artistic growth in ways that you cannot imagine.
